What is reiki?

Reiki, pronounced ray-kee, is a method created and used for stress reduction and relaxation by using energy to heal. This technique guides life force energy through the practitioner’s hands and to the recipient, ultimately healing their mind, body, and spirit.

What are the benefits?

Reiki is a way of healing that is very effective in helping illness, relieving side effects, and supporting mental health. Many prefer reiki to any medicine or doctor's advice because of its natural but effective way of healing. Along with its proven scientific effects, it also leaves you with feelings of peace and security. Your overall wellbeing and outlook on life are bettered, and you receive a feeling of relaxation and comfort.Reiki is often also used as a complimentary method of healing used to support the medicine you may be given for something such as an illness. There are studies where it has been proven to notably enhance the well being of even a cancer patient. It improves your sleep quality and will calm your autonomic nervous system.

How is it done?

To receive the healing, the receiver generally lays fully clothed on the table, as the practitioner uses their hands to channel the energy and life source to the recipient. The client may set intentions, use deep breathing, and ground, or just lay back and relax and allow the reiki to do it's work. Reiki can be hands on or hands off; no touch is needed. The practitioner is using their hands to remove energy blockages, balance the body's energy centers, and give the recipient a state of peace and rest.

How does it work?

In reiki, your life force is what regulates everything in your body. If it is low, you are in some way sick or unhealthy. If high, you are healthy and thriving. However, reiki is not something you are required to subscribe to or believe in to practice or receive; it is not a religion. It is simply a transfer of universal energy through the practitioner to the receiver, used to heal the receiver spiritually, physically, and mentally. 

How is reiki beneficial with therapy?

Reiki is beneficial with therapy because it helps to release the “stuck” or “blocked” emotions that you may have in your body. Talking through it with a therapist will always be beneficial, however it helps even more when this can be a physical change as well. It allows the patient to benefit more from the therapy and be able to engage more deeply with the therapist. It is a complimentary method, meaning reiki and therapy complement each other, and while both are not needed to work, both are encouraged for better results.
