What is the goal of counseling?

That depends on you. Some people may be looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation. Others may be seeking to change patterns or perceptions that are holding them back from having a more fulfilling life. Others have long-standing issues such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD that they would like help overcoming. Wherever you need balance in your life, I'll help you get there. Therapy is what you want it to be, and it will be what you make of it.

What are therapy sessions like?

I will provide support, unbiased perspective, encouragement, empowerment, and education to help you meet your goals. It will be your job to really look at yourself as a person, your thoughts, beliefs, and behavior patterns, and your life to determine what is contributing to your discomfort and in which direction you want to go. Together we'll find the best tools for you to make changes in your life.

How long will therapy last?

That depends on your specific needs. If you want, therapy can be short-term and focused on a specific issue.  Or it may be longer-term, to deal with more difficult patterns or to reach more personal development. We can look at your history, work on healing wounds from past experiences that are blocking you now, change thought and behavior patterns that are no longer serving you, learn how to flow with life instead of working against it, and move your life in a new direction. Whatever works best for you is perfect.

Do you accept insurance?

No, and here's why.  Insurance companies require that therapy be "medically necessary" in order to pay.  That means that I am required to give you a mental health diagnosis that is placed into your record with the insurance company.  If you change insurance companies, this diagnosis follows you as a "preexisting condition".  At each visit, we are expected to focus on "medically treating" that diagnosis.  It is a reactive approach to "sickness."  But realistically, life happens.  Every person has the right to seek support from someone they trust, without being labeled, monitored, or limited in how that happens, and without waiting for there to be a problem, or diagnosis.  I choose to serve my clients in ways that are best for them, which means clients can be proactive about how they care for themselves, and how and when to spend their money.    Because I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, you may pay with your HSA or FSA card even if you are not billing insurance.

Tell me about incorporating other services into counseling.

As a therapist, I offer support, guidance,  education, and empowerment in an accepting environment to help you reach your best self. However, sometimes, no matter how much we talk our issues through, we still feel stuck. This is where more holistic services like Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Yoga, and Meditation can help.   Take a look at those in more detail on my other pages.
